Venice

This city state is unlike most cities in the world. Located in northeast Italy, the city is a group of small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. It is actually off the cost of the Kingdom of Italy, surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. This makes ships the only ways of travel from and to the city. Currently the city thrives with wealth from trade with the Byzantine Empire, which is west of the city. The city is a popular place for all types of people: fishermen, merchants, sailors, pirates, nobles, and navy soldiers. However control of the city lies with its Council. The powerful navy that resides in Venice is under their control.
