Constantinople is more than the largest city in the Byzantine Empire, it is also the capital. Located in the center of the Empire, A total of three walls surround the city, which is built on seven hills. The Sea of Marmara flows into the city along with the Golden Horn, an inlet that turns into a river through parts of the city. Rollup bridges and archer towers add to the city’s defense along the wall. Inside the city, the areas are split into two areas. The first is a series of towers, castles, and noble houses accompanied by a barracks and a market district for the rich. The majority of nobles and the Emperor live in what is called the “Upper Hills”. In the “Lower Hills” middle class and poor are mixed and positioned often near the Grand Cathedral.
